Why do I need to register my sub-meter

The sub-meter must be registered so that the tenants can purchase electricity vouchers from the retail stores nationwide and load electricity units onto the sub-meter. The landlord / owners shall be reimbursed for the electricity vouchers purchased by the tenant which can be used to pay the main meter electricity bill.

How to register my meter

Recharger now offers a faster & more convenient way to register your Recharger sub-meter.

Follow the link below to create your customer profile and register your new sub-meter on the Recharger portal:

To start the process please click on register. Enter your cell phone number and click on get one-time pin (OTP), thereafter you will be prompted to enter a one-time pin. Please retrieve this from your cell phone and enter in the appropriate fields.

A copy of the Landlord/Property Owner's ID and bank confirmation letter/
bank statement is required to be uploaded.

The Banking details are essential to ensure that the landlord / meter owner is reimbursed at the end of the month.

REGISTRATION FORM

In the event that you are unable to register online, Recharger offers the alternative option to complete your sub-meter registration by submitting the completed registration form.

The form can be easily obtained through the Recharger website
https://recharger.co.za/pages/register-meter.

One form may be used to register multiple meters. Once the form is complete, please scan/take a picture and send it back to us via:

Please note a copy of the Landlord/Property Owner's ID and bank verification letter / bank statement is required with the completed Registration form.

What information do I need to provide during the registration process?

Is there a fee associated with registering for your service?

Registration of the sub-meter is free of charge.

Yes, you may register multiple sub-meters on your customer online profile.

Are there any age restrictions for registration?

To complete the registration process, you must:

- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be the property owner.
- Provide a copy of the owner’s ID, recent bank statement / bank confirmation letter and a meter number.

How long does the registration process take?

The time it takes to register depends on many factors. The quickest way to register is to create on online account. Visit Create Account

Can I edit my registration information after I've completed the process?

You may update your information, but for security purposes, we may require confirmation through additional document verification. We have a dedicated team to assist you with these changes. Please email regforms@recharger.co.za

Is there a confirmation email sent after successful registration?

Yes, you will receive confirmation once the registration has been completed.

Are there any specific requirements for creating a password during registration?

Yes, the password must be at least 8 characters long, with 1 special character (!@#$%^&*()), 1 capital letter and 1 number

Are there any specific requirements or certifications needed for meter registration?

No, there are no specific certifications or requirements. The only documents needed for registration are a copy of the landlord’s ID, a recent bank statement / bank confirmation letter, and your sub-meter number to complete the registration process.

What measures can be taken to protect personal information when an ID is used for registration purposes?

Why is a bank account required for registration?

A bank account is essential for the accuracy of the profile and for your security. We use this to verify your identity and ensure that the landlord / meter owner is reimbursed.

Why is a bank account necessary for receiving rebates?

Rebates are paid at the end of the month if the tenant has purchased in the respective rebate period (25th of previous month to 24th of current month). The rebate is released into the nominated bank account.

Without a bank account the owner cannot receive these reimbursements.

Why can’t the rebate be issued in cash?

Recharger pays directly into the nominated bank account because it is secure and more convenient for the Landlord / meter owner.

Can you explain how a bank account is utilized in the registration system?

The Landlord/Property Owner’s banking details are required for the reimbursement of electricity purchased by the tenant on the Chainstore Vending Option which allows the tenant to purchase electricity at the chain stores (Shoprite, Pick n Pay, banks etc.).

Who is authorized to sign the Registration form?

The Landlord / meter owner must sign the registration form, alternatively, register the sub-meter online by following the link below:

What is Chainstore Vending?

CHAINSTORE VENDING – this option allows the Tenant to purchase electricity vouchers from stores, garages, online and in banking apps. The purchases made are then reimbursed to the Property Owner / Landlord on the 30th of every month. Service fees apply.

What is a sub-meter electricity rebate?

The sub-meter electricity rebate refunds tenants for their actual electricity voucher purchases during the rebate period, minus service fees. The refunds are deposited into the nominated bank account listed on the registration form, helping to pay the Municipal / Eskom bill.

Do prepaid electricity vouchers expire?

Recharger pre-paid vouchers are valid for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase.

The vouchers purchased on the chain store vending option is dependent on the TID sequence in which it is generated. Should the range in sequence be greater than 100 digits it may render the voucher invalid. Therefore, the expiry date of these tokens is uncertain.

Fix sub-meter issues

Vouchers not loading on the meter?

There are various reasons that your voucher is may not load successfully:

1. Entering the voucher code incorrectly.

- Please check that the voucher code is entered exactly as it appears.

2. Buying vouchers for the incorrect meter number.

- The voucher purchased for the incorrect meter number will not load on the sub-meter.

Vouchers are specific to a meter number. Kindly ensure that the meter number is correct when purchasing a voucher. The meter number appears on the meter below the barcode on the sub-meter and on the meter card.

The above are examples of instance where electricity vouchers will not load on the sub-meter. Should you encounter difficulties in loading your electricity voucher, kindly contact Recharger on 010 880 8000 or email admin@recharger.co.za for further assistance.

What is a tamper code?

A tamper code is a special code used to reactivate the meter if it is in a tamper state. Once entered successfully the sub-meter should supply electricity again

How do I get a tamper code?

The owner/landlord can generate a tamper code in their online customer account. The code can then be entered into the meter to restore electricity. Follow the link below:

Once you have accessed your customer profile, please select SERVICES and TAMPER CODE to process your request.

How do I clear my tamper on my prepaid sub-meter?

Only the owner/landlord can generate a tamper code and can do it from their online customer account. The code can then be entered into the meter to restore electricity
